Commercial Bakery

Customer: Commercial Bakery
Project: Conveyor Upgrade

Challenge

Our customer had concerns over the performance and condition of four sections of bread conveyors in their second Plant. The conveyors had a history of major repair requirements, and the customer wanted to invest money to bring them up to industry-leading performance standards.

Worldwide Engineering tendered and won the contract, providing the customer with exactly the performance improvements they were looking for, in addition to making some key recommendations in consultation with the equipment manufacturers to extend the future service life of the system.

One of the main changes we recommended was the fitting of a higher temperature capacity conveyor chain, as the existing chains were being damaged by the heat after the bread tins were conveyed from the oven. As well as upgrading three of the sections, we manufactured a brand new powered conveyor bend between sections one and three, which blended in perfectly.

Our engineers were given a weekend to strip-out and to install the new system before the night-shift run on the Sunday: all work was completed satisfactorily within the time set.

Outcome

The customer was delighted with the workmanship and project management of the job. We worked to a very tight timescale, having to manufacture, supply and fit the system without any downtime to the plant.

We believe we met and exceeded our client’s expectations with this project: as a result we are currently looking at how we can improve another conveyor system for the same customer.
